Heinz Zwierzina is currently Professor at the Universität Innsbruck in Innsbruck, Austria. His main research interests are in the area of cancer therapy (cytokines, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, inhibition of angiogenesis, and gene therapy), specifically of solid tumors, with a focus on colorectal carcinomas, breast cancer, lung cancer and sarcomas. Dr. Zwierzina has published over 80 original articles and
book chapters on these and other subjects.
In addition, Dr. Zwierzina was Board member of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), is the chairman of the Biotherapy Development Association (BDA) and is a member of the advisory board of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and the Central European Cooperative Oncology Group (CECOG). Furthermore, he is a founding member of the International Committee for the Establishment and Development of Oncology Centers (ICEDOC), and is a member of numerous other international committees and scientific societies.

Jean-Pierre Armand is General Director of the Institut Claudius Regaud, the comprehensive cancer center in Toulouse, France. Previously, he was Head of the Early Clinical New Drugs Program, and Medical Director Research and Development at the Institut Gustave-Roussy, Villejuif in France. Dr. Armand is board certified in medical oncology and has been involved in Phase I, II and III studies of many investigational agents in the treatment of a variety of solid tumors.
Dr. Armand is an active member of the medical oncology community; he was President of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and Medical Director of the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS). He has also been active in the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), where he served as chairman of the EORTC protocol review committee. At the EMEA French Agency (AFSSAPS), he was representative of oncology at the AMM commission for oncology, in charge of approval of anticancer agents.
He previously held several positions in national and international professional societies including President of the French Cancer Society (SFC), Member of the international board of the American Association for Cancer Research (2004 - 2007), Member of the scientific committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) (2005 - 2008), and Member of the board of clinical trials of the Institut National du Cancer (INCa).
Dr. Armand has (co-)authored over 300 medical and scientific publications and was on the editorial boards of Annals of Oncology, the European Journal of Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Investigational New Drugs, Anticancer Research and Clinical Cancer Research.

Wolfgang Berdel received his medical degree from the University of Freiburg in Germany. Since then he has held positions at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, at the Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA, and at the Free University of Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Berdel is currently Director of the Department of Medicine A: Hematology and Oncology, Hemostaseology, Pneumology at the University Hospital in Münster.
Included among Dr. Berdel's accomplishments are being a fellowship-alumni of the Heisenberg Fellowship of the DFG, receiving the Farmitalia Carlo Erba Award, Association of Medical Oncology (AIO) from the German Cancer Society, and the German Cancer Award from the German Cancer Society. Dr. Berdel serves on the editorial boards of several international hematology and oncology journals.

Carsten Bokemeyer is Head of the Department of Oncology and Hematology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. He is also Director of the University Cancer Center (UCCH) of Hamburg University. He received his medical training from the Hannover University, Germany. After an academic exchange year at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA, Dr. Bokemeyer worked at the Departments of Hematology and Oncology at Hannover University Medical School, and at Tuebingen University in Germany.
Dr. Bokemeyer's main research interests include genitourinary malignancies, particularly germ cell tumors, as well as gastrointestinal cancers (treatment options, supportive care and late toxicity, the development of new drugs and biological agents and the development of new combination treatment regimens). His experimental research has focused on molecular prognostic markers and the mechanisms of drug resistance in solid tumor models.
Dr. Bokemeyer is a member of several professional societies, including the German Cancer Society (DKG), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He serves as Chairman of the ESMO examination subcommittee and as member of three ESMO faculty groups, and he is on the Board of Directors of the German Society of Hematology and Medical Oncology and the German Cancer Society. In addition, Dr. Bokemeyer has been author or co-author of more than 310 original peer-reviewed publications, and has edited 9 textbooks in various fields of medical oncology as well as contributed to several others.

Markus Borner is currently Associate Professor at the University of Bern, Switzerland and Head of the Oncology Unit at the Spitalzentrum Biel. After his training at the Universities of Basel and Bern, Dr. Borner spent three years as a research fellow at the Clinical Pharmacology Branch of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, USA.
Dr. Borner's main clinical interests are new drug development and designing innovative research protocols. He is the chairman of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Study Group of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK). His research laboratory focuses on the role of apoptosis regulation for developing new approaches to cancer treatment. His work has been published in several prestigious oncology journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Oncogene, Cell Death & Differentiation, Annals of Oncology, Cancer Research, British Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Cancer, and Proteomics.

Fortunato Ciardiello is Full Professor of Medical Oncology and Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Therapeutics at the Cattedra di Oncologia Medica, Dipartimento Medico- Chirurgico di Internistica Clinica e Sperimentale, Seconda Università di Napoli in Naples, Italy. Dr. Ciardiello received his MD degree, his specialty training in medical oncology and his PhD degree in molecular biology and pathology from the University of Naples, Italy. He obtained research training for almost 5 years at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA.
Dr. Ciardiello received the ?G. Venosta? Award from the Italian Foundation for Cancer Research (FIRC) in November 2000 for research on novel therapeutic strategies in cancer. Dr. Ciardiello?s research interests involve the role of growth factors and their specific receptors in neoplastic transformation and the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting growth factor receptor signaling, and he has published over 110 original research articles in these areas. In addition, Dr. Ciardiello is an active member of several international scientific societies, including AACR, ASCO and ESMO, and serves on the editorial boards of the journals Clinical Cancer Research, Oncology Reports, International Journal of Oncology, and Signal: The Journal of the EGFR-Targeted Cancer Therapy.

Leif Håkansson is currently Associate Professor at the University of Lund, Sweden, and Consultant in Oncology and Head of the Division of Clinical Tumor Immunology at the University Hospital in Linköping, Sweden. He received both his MD and PhD at the University of Lund, and has since held various positions at both the University of Lund and the University Hospital in Linköping.
Dr. Håkansson?s research interests include immune parameters of importance for response, monitoring and optimization of immunotherapy and biochemotherapy in various types of cancer, e.g. renal cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma and colorectal cancer. He has published approximately 75 peer-reviewed articles, given approximately 40 congress presentations on these and other topics, and holds several patents on methods for prediction and monitoring of immunotherapy of cancer.
In addition, Dr. Håkansson is a member of several scientific societies, including the Swedish Society of Oncology and the Swedish Society of Medicine, and is Vice Chairman of the Biotherapy Development Association (BDA).

Paulo M. Hoff is Chairman of Medical Oncology at the University of São Paulo and Executive Director of the Oncology Center at the Hospital Sírio Libanês in São Paulo, Brazil. Prior to this he was an Associate Professor and Deputy Chairman in the Department of GI Medical Oncology at the University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, TX, USA. Dr. Hoff was a fellow in hematology/oncology and chief fellow in medical oncology at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. During this period, he was granted a number of awards for achievement, including best research as a senior fellow, Merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and selection as one of America´s top physicians.
Dr. Hoff?s research interests include the development of new antineoplastic drugs as well as treatment of colorectal and neuroendocrine cancers, focusing on biomodulation strategies for fluoropyrimidines, oral and molecular targeted agents. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and numerous books and chapters in this field. He is a member of numerous editorial boards, and is a member of many academic societies, including the Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica (SBOC), the Sociedade Brasileira de Cancerologia (SBC), ASCO and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Stan Kaye is currently Cancer Research UK Professor of Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Head of the Section of Medicine at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, UK. In 2000, Dr. Kaye moved to London after 20 years in Glasgow, where he headed the University Department of Medical Oncology. At the Royal Marsden Hospital, he heads the Drug Development Unit. This moved into new dedicated clinical facilities in February 2005, and is one of the largest such units in the world focused entirely on Phase I trials in cancer. He has also established a new laboratory group examining novel agents for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
Dr. Kaye?s research interests have included gynecological cancer, testicular cancer and drug resistance. He is an active participant in several clinical/scientific societies, and until recently he chaired the Cancer Research UK Clinical and Translational Research Committee. Dr. Kaye has also lectured extensively on new drug development, drug resistance, testicular cancer and ovarian cancer.
In addition, he has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and reviews and has written numerous book chapters/ books, editorials and letters. Finally, Dr. Kaye is a past clinical editor of the British Journal of Cancer and is a member of the editorial board of 14 other medical journals.

Håkan Mellstedt is Professor of Oncologic Biotherapy at the Karolinska Institute and Managing Director of the Cancer Centre Karolinska (CCK) at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. He holds a position as Chief Physician in the Departments of Oncology and Haematology and is board certified in internal medicine, oncology and hematology.
Dr. Mellstedt has published more than 470 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of numerous oncology chapters in professional medical textbooks. He was awarded the Alfaferone Prize 1989 (Italy) and the J. Waldenström Award 2001 (USA), and he has been invited as a speaker at international meetings more than 150 times.
He was the Chairman of the Swedish Society of Oncology from 1993 ? 2000. He was the President of ESMO from 2006 ? 2007 and is Past President 2008 ? 2009. Dr. Mellstedt serves as the Chairman of the ESMO Foundation (2008 ? 2009), dedicated to promoting medical training and research for the benefit of cancer patients.
Dr. Mellstedt is Scientific Advisor of the Lundbeck?s Foundation (Denmark), Chairman of the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation, Scientific Secretary of the Cancer Society in Stockholm and King Gustaf 5th Jubilee Fund, Chairman of the Scientific Committee evaluating medical research at Radiumhospital/Rikshospital Oslo, Norway, and Chairman of the Committee for Clinical Medical Research of the Norwegian Research Council. In addition, he is SAB member of several biotech and biopharmaceutical companies.
His main research areas are tumor immunology and immunotherapy with a focus on the development of antibody treatment, cytokine therapy and cancer vaccines in gastrointestinal and chronic B cell malignancies. He has also implemented a program developing targeted therapy using small molecules for the treatment of lymphoproliferative diseases.

Salvatore Siena is Director of the Falck Division of Medical Oncology, Ospedale Niguarda Ca?Granda, and Adjunct Professor of Oncology, University of Milan, Italy. He graduated from the University of Pavia, Italy, with a degree in medicine and then completed post-doctoral training with positions at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, and at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA.
Dr. Siena returned to Italy to work at the Division of Medical Oncology, Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan, where he was appointed Vice Director from 1994 to 1999. Dr. Siena has received merit awards for clinical research and is a reviewer for several oncology journals. He has published two books as well as over 170 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. His long-term research interests are the development of anticancer treatments including hematopoietic cell therapy and growth factor support of anticancer therapies, as well as targeted pharmaceuticals for solid malignancies.

Jean-Charles Soria is Full Professor of Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Paris University XI. He is a tenure-track and full-time cancer specialist at the Institut Gustave-Roussy. Dr. Soria trained as a medical oncologist and obtained a Silver medal from the Paris Medical School in 1997. He gained a PhD degree in the fundamental basis of oncogenesis in 2001, and completed his training with a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Thoracic Head and Neck Medical Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA.
Dr. Soria is currently head of the Phase I program at the Institut Gustave-Roussy and a member of the lung cancer unit with a focus on targeted therapies. His main research interests are early clinical development, Phase I trials across solid tumors, pharmacodynamic biomarkers, early Phase II trials and lung cancer. He is also involved in translational research aspects related to tumor progression, notably in lung cancer models. Dr. Soria has led ten Phase I trials as principal investigator during the last three years as well as half a dozen Phase II trials in lung cancer. He is currently the medical chair of the French scientific national program on lung cancer (PNES), launched by the French NCI.
Dr. Soria is a member of ASCO, AACR, ESMO and IASLC. He also founded the Flims Alumni Club (FAC) in 2001. Dr. Soria is a current member of the ESMO executive committee, as well as an ASCO committee member. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Lancet Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has contributed to more than 140 peer-reviewed publications, including publications as first or last author in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Cancer Research and Clinical Cancer Research.

Josep Tabernero received his medical degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain. Afterwards, he completed his specialist training in medical oncology and has had appointments in Barcelona.
Dr. Tabernero is currently the Head of the Gastrointestinal Tumors Unit at the Medical Oncology Department at the Vall d?Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. He is actively involved in translational research and pharmacodynamic Phase I studies with molecular targeted therapies and related translational research, with a special focus on EGFR inhibitors, and also in Phase II and III studies with new chemotherapy agents in gastrointestinal tumors.
In addition, Dr. Tabernero is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and has (co-)authored approximately 70 peer-reviewed papers.

Eric van Cutsem is currently Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Leuven, Belgium. He is also responsible for the Division of Digestive Oncology at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven. Dr. Van Cutsem is holder of the special chair Digestive Oncology at the University of Leuven and has a mandate as senior clinical researcher of the Fund for Scientific Research (FWO). He obtained his medical and PhD degree at the University of Leuven, specializing in internal medicine. During his training he spent several months in England, Switzerland, the USA and the Netherlands where he was involved in clinical and research projects.
Dr. Van Cutsem coordinates several European and worldwide trials investigating new drugs for gastrointestinal cancer and serves on many steering committees and advisory boards. He is/was member of the programme committee of ASCO 2003-2004, ASCO GI programme committee 2004, 2006-2007, the ASCO Cancer Education Committee 2005-2008, the ESMO faculty, and the strategic ESMO multidisciplinary oncology committee and he chaired or participated in the ECCO colon cancer programme committees. He is president of the Belgian FAPA (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis Association), chairs the ministerial commission on colon cancer prevention in Flanders, is vice-president of the Belgian Group of Digestive Oncology and is president of ESDO (European Society of Digestive Oncology). He served both as secretary and as chairman of the EORTC ? Gastrointestinal Cancer Group (EORTC-GI group) from 2000-2007. He was elected as president of PETACC (PanEuropean Trials on Adjuvant Colon Cancer) in June 2008.
Dr. Van Cutsem is a member of several national and international scientific organisations, including the ASCO, the ESMO, the AACR, and the European NeuroEndocrine Tumour Society (ENETS). He has published more than 200 peerreviewed articles and more than 350 other texts or book chapters on gastrointestinal cancer. Additionally, he is coeditor of the reference text book on gastrointestinal cancer: Principles and Practice of Gastrointestinal Oncology: second edition, 2008. Dr. Van Cutsem is/was a member of several editorial boards including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, European Journal of Cancer, Japanese Journal of Clinical Oncology, Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology, Clinical Colorectal Cancer, European Journal of Cancer Prevention, Journal of Chemotherapy, Expert Opinion of Pharmacotherapy, and is associate editor of Targeted Oncology. He was organiser of the PICC (Perspectives in Colorectal Cancer) meetings in Barcelona and is chairman of the scientific committee of the World Congress in Gastrointestinal Cancer in Barcelona since June 2004, from 2005 in partnership with the ESMO.

John Eu-Li Wong is Dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Deputy Chief Executive of the National University Health System (NUHS) and Director of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS). A medical oncologist-haematologist, Dr. Wong obtained his MBBS from NUS and completed his residency and fellowship at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Wong jointly founded the Cancer Therapeutics Research Group (CTRG), a multi-national consortium of seven institutions. He is a member of the International Education Council for Molecular Targeted Therapy for Cancer, has served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology International Affairs Committee, and has been a faculty member of the International Oncology Foundation Advisory Board. Dr. Wong?s research interests are in the development of new drugs, new treatment strategies, and differences between Asian and Caucasian cancers.

Yosef Yarden is Professor in the Department of Biological Regulation at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. He received his BSc in biology and geology (cum laude) at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel in 1979 and his PhD at the Weizmann Institute in 1985. His postdoctoral training was performed at Genentech Inc. in South San Francisco and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, USA.
Dr. Yarden's research career has been devoted to understanding the role of the EGFR family of growth factor receptors and EGF-like growth factors in human cancers. He has been involved in many crucial developments in this field, including isolating the EGFR, isolating the first neuregulins, establishing the pivotal role of receptor dimerization in transmembrane signaling, understanding the role of HER2 in receptor-receptor interactions, discovering the mechanism of receptor ubiquitinylation, and description of the ErbB network control circuitry.
Dr. Yarden is a member of the Israel Academy of Science and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). He has received numerous awards for his work, including the H. Dudley Wright Research Award in Biomembranes (1990), the Somech Sachs Prize in Chemistry (1992), the Andre Lwoff Prize (1995), the Lombroso Award for Cancer Research (1997), The Michael Bruno Prize of Yad Hanadiv (Rotchild's) Fund (1999), the Teva Founders? Prize (2004), the MERIT Award of the US National Cancer Institute (2005) and the EMET Prize (2007).

Christoph Zielinski is Director of the Clinical Division of Oncology and Chairman of the Department of Medicine I at the Medical University Vienna, Austria. He serves as Coordinator of the Center of Excellence for Clinical and Experimental Oncology at the University Hospital Vienna, and is President of the Central European Cooperative Oncology Group (CECOG, www.cecog.org).
Dr. Zielinski completed his medical training at the University Hospital Vienna and began his career with a position as a research fellow at the Cancer Research Center at Tufts University, Boston, MA, USA. His recent clinical research activities cover a wide range of cancer therapies, with a particular focus on breast cancer treatments and the development of targeted drugs.
Dr. Zielinski is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He is on the editorial board of a series of peer-reviewed journals that specialize in oncology and is ? among other editorial tasks - editor of the German Version of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Elizabeth Mickiewicz is Head of the Service of Clinical Oncology at the Instituto Angel H. Roffo and Director of the Specialization in Clinical Oncology Program at the School of Medicine of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Dr. Mickiewicz is an active member of the Argentine oncology community. She is a former President of the Asociación Argentina de Oncología Clínica (A.A.O.C.) and a current member of the advisory board of the A.A.O.C., and has been an active member of ASCO and ESMO for many years. In addition, she has lectured extensively on urological and breast cancer treatment, both in Argentina and neighboring countries.
Dr. Mickiewicz has co-authored over 80 medical and scientific publications on urological, breast and head and neck tumor treatment, which are her areas of specialization. She has also been involved in several phase II and III chemotherapy and immunology treatment studies.

Hernán Lupera obtained his medical degree at the Catholic University of Guayaquil in Ecuador, and completed his fellowship at the Institut Gustave-Roussy in Villejuif, France. Currently he is Head of the Service of Oncology at the Metropolitano Hospital in Quito in Ecuador and Past President of the Ecuadorean Society of Hematology. Dr. Lupera is also a founding member of several international societies such as GAICO (Andean Group for Investigation in Clinical Oncology) and CIBOMA (Ibero-American Coalition for Research in Clinical Oncology), and he is an active member of ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) and ASH (American Society of Hematology). In addition, Dr. Lupera has published over 25 original research articles and book chapters.

Clarissa Mathias obtained her medical degree at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. She then completed her residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, PA, USA, where she served as Chief Resident. She completed her hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she is Medical Director at the Núcleo de Oncologia da Bahia in Brazil, where she is involved in several research protocols, and she is also the oncology coordinator at the Hospital Português. In addition, Dr. Mathias completed a PhD in internal medicine at the Federal University of Bahia in 2005.
Dr. Mathias is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in clinical oncology by the Brazilian Society of Cancerology. She is also a member of several societies such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Brazilian Society of Cancerology and the Brazilian Society of Oncology, and has co-authored several peer-reviewed papers.

Alvaro Aguayo obtained his medical degree from the Facultad de Medicina at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and went on to become Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencia Médicas y Nutrición (INCMNSZ) in Mexico City. Dr. Aguayo has completed three fellowships, one in hematology at INCMNSZ, the second in medical oncology and the third in bone marrow transplantation. The second and third fellowships were completed at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA.
In 1999, he was granted the ?Clinical Fellow Research Award? of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for his research in angiogenesis in hematological malignancies.
Currently, Dr. Aguayo is Head of the Hematology and Oncology Department, INCMNSZ, and is a level 1 National Investigator in Medicine at the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología in Mexico. In addition, Dr. Aguayo is a Professor of hematology and oncology at the medical school of the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico.
Dr. Aguayo is a member of numerous national and international medical societies, including the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Associates, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and five medical societies in Mexico. Lastly, Dr. Aguayo has published a number of abstracts in international meetings, and has several publications in international, peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.

José Miguel Reyes obtained his medical degree at the Universidad de Chile in 1978 and after that obtained his medical oncology degree at the same university in 1983. In 1985, he became Head of the Medical Oncology Department at the Hospital Paula Jaraquemada. Dr. Reyes moved to the Clínica Las Condes in Santiago to establish and direct the Oncology Department in 1991.
Dr. Reyes is the Head of the Prevention Department at Corporación Nacional del Cáncer. His research interests focus on breast and gall bladder cancer, and he has over 20 publications in these areas. He has been the Medical Director of the Cancer Institute of the Clínica Las Condes and an external advisor of the Chilean Ministry of Health since 2004.

Carlos Gil Ferreira completed his training in clinical oncology at the Instituto Nacional de Cancer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1997. In the same year, he started a PhD program in experimental oncology at the Department of Medical Oncology at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center (VUMC) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Ferreira also worked for 4 years as a fellow in clinical and translational research at the VUMC.
Since 2001, Dr. Ferreira has been back in Brazil, working at the Instituto Nacional de Câncer, where he was appointed Head of the Clinical and Translational Service in 2002. He established the National Tumor and DNA Bank at INCA in 2004. His main interests are lung cancer, molecular pharmacology and development of new anticancer drugs. Dr. Ferreira is the principal author and co-author of over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.

Carlos Silva is Head of the Clinical Oncology Services of the Hospital Británico de Buenos Aires in Argentina and Professor of Oncology of the Universidad Católica Argentina. Dr. Silva was trained in molecular oncology at the University of Buenos Aires, with additional specialty training in Europe and Latin America. He has served as an invited professor of clinical oncology and chemotherapy at the University of Salvador. He is the Director of the Annual Course on Molecular Biology of Cancer at the Universidad Católica Argentina.
Dr. Silva has participated in more than 20 clinical oncology studies as investigator or principal investigator. Ongoing trials include phase II and III studies on treatments for NSCLC, breast cancer, colorectal cancer and melanoma. He has authored several national and international publications.
In addition, Dr. Silva received the LALCEC Quinto Centenario award and the Revista Médicos award for his community services in 2000 and the British Hospital Award in 2007. He is a member of the Society for Melanoma Research, the Asociación Argentina de Oncología Clínica, the Sociedad Argentina de Mastología, the Asociación Argentina de Ginecología Oncológica and of the Asociación de Oncología Clínica de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, and a former member of the Comisión Directiva de la Asociación Argentina de Oncología Clínica. John Eu-Li Wong is Dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Deputy Chief Executive of the National University Health System (NUHS) and Director of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS). A medical oncologist-haematologist, Dr. Wong obtained his MBBS from NUS and completed his residency and fellowship at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Wong jointly founded the Cancer Therapeutics Research Group (CTRG), a multi-national consortium of seven institutions. He is a member of the International Education Council for Molecular Targeted Therapy for Cancer, has served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology International Affairs Committee, and has been a faculty member of the International Oncology Foundation Advisory Board. Dr. Wong?s research interests are in the development of new drugs, new treatment strategies, and differences between Asian and Caucasian cancers.

Ann-Lii Cheng is Professor of Medicine and Chief of Medical Oncology at the National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his MD degree, PhD degree, and his specialty training in Medical Oncology at the Medical School of the National Taiwan University. In 1990, he was a research fellow at the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.
Dr. Cheng has been actively involved in basic and translational research in lymphoma, gastric adenocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. He has published more than 173 peer-reviewed articles in these areas. He has also served on the editorial boards of Oncology (Basel), of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology and of the Journal of the Formosan Medical Association. Dr. Cheng is an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). In addition, he is one of the founding members and Chairman of the Chemotherapy Committee of the Taiwan Cooperative Oncology Group.
Dr. Cheng received the ?Outstanding Research Award? from the National Science Council of Taiwan, and the ?Outstanding Cancer Research Award? from the Chinese Oncology Society. He became ?Distinguished Professor? of National Taiwan University in 2006, and was elected as Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2007.

Dr. Da-Tong Chu is Chief Scientific Officer and Chairman of the EC/IRB of the Cancer Institute and Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing, China. He is President of the Chinese Geriatric Oncology Society (CGOS), Vice-Chairman of the GCP Center of National Anti-Cancer Drugs, and a member of the Expert Committee of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) and the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Committee.
After graduating from the Capital University of Medical Sciences, he pursued his postgraduate studies on the regulation of immunoglobulin secretion in malignant lymphoma. By modifying the conventional method of immunoelectrophoresis, he succeeded in detecting trace amounts of many monoclonal antibodies and greatly increased the sensitivity of detection of malignant B cell lymphoma. Between 1984 and 1987 and 1990 and 1993, he was a visiting fellow at the Department of Clinical Immunology and Biological Therapy at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, TX, USA. His extensive experience in western and traditional Chinese medicine led to his search for biological response modifiers from botanicals. Dr. Chu discovered fraction 3 from Astragalus membranaceus, which increases the cytotoxicity of LAK cells and greatly reduces the dosage of interleukin-2. In recognition of his achievement, he was elected member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in 1988 and was awarded a research grant in China. He is especially interested in the combination of biological and chemical therapies for lung cancer, breast cancer, melanoma and kidney cancer.
As a pioneer and immediate past president of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), he is pleased to see that under his two terms of leadership, CSCO currently has more than 5000 professional members and is actively developing national oncology education, scientific exchange and engaging in many multi-center clinical trials, as well as developing close long-term cooperations with ASCO, ESMO and ACOS.
Dr. Chu has published more than 100 major scientific papers and edited or co-edited more than 15 books on medical oncology. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology, as well as Co-Editor of the newly established journal Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology, and he serves on the editorial boards of Cancer Reviews and of many other domestic journals.

Zhongzhen Guan obtained his MD from Lingnan University Medical School in 1954 and completed his post-doctoral training in hematology at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Hematology Institute in 1963. He was a WHO-sponsored visiting scholar at the M.D. Anderson Hospital & Cancer Research Institute in Houston, TX, USA, and was appointed Visiting Associate Professor from 1982 to 1983.
Dr. Guan has served as Director of the Cancer Hospital of Sun Yat-sen Medical University in Guangzhou from 1986 to 1993. He is currently Professor and Chief of the Medical Oncology Department, as well as a member of the Directors of the Chinese National Board of Cancer Management & Research, and Chairman of the Oncology/Hematology Drug Evaluation Committee of the Chinese Ministry of Health. Dr. Guan is also Director of the Chinese Anticancer Association and the President of its Canton Branch.
In addition, Dr. Guan is a member of the IOF Scientific Advisory Board and was appointed a scientific advisor of the Cancer Institute of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His main interests of study are chemotherapy of lymphomas, lung cancer, breast cancer, and new anticancer drug development. Dr. Guan has published extensively in Chinese and international journals.
Dr. Guan has been the principal investigator of clinical studies of many domestic and imported anticancer drugs including vinorebine, vindesine, THP-doxorubicin, ifosfamide, lobaplatin nedaplatin, gemcitabine, docetaxel, 10-hydroxy-camptothecin, irinotecan, oxaliplatin, and topotecan. Furthermore, Dr. Guan participates in many international multi-center studies including the HERA trial, gemcitabine in liver cancer, topotecan for 2nd line treatment of NSCLC, topotecan /DDP vs. etoposide/DDP in 1st line SCLC, and gefinitib in Chinese NSCLC patients.

Anthony Chan graduated from the University College and the Middlesex Joint School of Medicine in London in 1988. He received post-graduate training in Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, UK, and joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1993. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) in 2001 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2004. He was promoted to Professor and Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology in 2002 and Director of the Sir YK Pao Centre for Cancer and the Hong Kong Cancer Institute in 2004.

Michael Millward is a medical graduate from the University of Western Australia who undertook post-graduate training in Medical Oncology at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, and from 1992 to 1998 was Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Melbourne. As Head of Clinical Research at the Sydney Cancer Centre from 1998-2003, he was responsible for the co-ordination and development of clinical research activities and translational studies. Dr. Millward returned to WA in 2003 to take up a new position as the Cancer Council Professor of Clinical Cancer Research based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth. He has subsequently expanded the clinical trial capacity and is undertaking Phase I and early Phase II trials and translational studies.
Dr. Millward has been a leading clinical cancer researcher for the past ten years, specialising in early clinical trials, development of new anti-cancer therapeutics and trials in lung cancer and melanoma. He has organised and conducted over 50 Phase I/II trials, many including novel aspects of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and translational studies including several first-in-man trials. He has been protocol chairman and on steering committees for 4 multinational Phase III registrational clinical trials, and has also been an independent reviewer, member of Independent Data Monitoring Committees (IDMCs) and clinical research auditor for international trials.
Since 1998 Dr. Millward has been involved in the formation and development of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Group, an Asia-Pacific cancer clinical trials group with successful links to the clinical research program of the National Cancer Institute (US), of which he is a recognised international investigator.
Dr. Millward also has a Masters Degree from the Centre for Human Bioethics (Monash University), specialising in ethics of clinical trials, and has extensive experience as a member of several Human Research Ethics Committees. Additionally, he has been group chairman in the organisation and writing of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) guidelines for the management of lung cancer, published in 2004, and is on the management committee of the Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group.

Purvish M. Until recently he was Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel in Mumbai, India. Dr. Parikh received his medical degree and a doctorate in applied biology from the University of Mumbai in India. He is certified as a Clinical Investigator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and has also received the Certification in Medical Oncology from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).
Dr. Parikh is a member of the ESMO Task Force on Developing Countries which represents Central Asia. He is a convener for the Indian Co-operative Oncology Network (ICON) and vice president of the Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology (ISMPO). Furthermore, Dr. Parikh is chairperson for the Ethics Committee of the Wadia Group of Hospitals in India and on the executive committee of the Academy of Clinical Excellence at the Bombay College of Pharmacy in India. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Oxford Unversity, UK.
Dr. Parikh is an editor for the Indian Journal of Cancer, a member of the editorial board for Annals of Oncology and an advisory board member for the Journal of Association of Physicians of India. Nagahiro Saijo is Deputy Director of the National Cancer Center Hospital East in Tokyo, Japan. Currently he is President of the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology, President Elect of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), President, Director and Counselor of the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology (JSMO), and Immediate Past President of the Japanese Lung Cancer Society.
Dr. Saijo received his medical training at the Osaka University School of Medicine. After two years as project investigator in the Department of Developmental Therapeutics at MD Anderson Hospital, he completed his doctoral degree at the Osaka University School of Medicine. During his scientific career, he has been Head of the Department for Internal Medicine at the National Cancer Center Hospital, Chief of the Pharmacology Division of the National Cancer Center Research Institute, Chief of the Medical Oncology Division at the National Cancer Center and President of the Japanese Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG). His specialties and research interests include cancer chemotherapy trials, drug resistance, pharmacology of anticancer drugs and tumor immunology.
Dr. Saijo has been awarded the Tamiya Prize, the Award of Adult Disease Memorial Research Foundation, the 5th Central European Lung Cancer Symposium Meritorious Award and a BMS Freedom to Discovery grant. Sumitra Thongprasert started her career in oncology in 1983. Following a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, she returned to Chiang Mai University in Thailand and has been Professor of Oncology there since 1999.
Dr. Thongprasert chaired the Thai Society of Clinical Oncology (TSCO) from 2002 to 2006 and has chaired the Asia-Pacific Lung Cancer Group (APLCG) since 2004. After completing her MD at the Medical College of Taiwan University, she spent three years as fellow in medical oncology at the Washington Hospital Center in the USA, subsequently working as Medical Director at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Roh graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine in 1973 and received his PhD degree from Yonsei University. He finished his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Severance Hospital at the Yonsei University Medical Center. He completed a medical oncology fellowship at the Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA.
Dr. Roh is mainly interested in the multimodality treatment of solid tumors, colon cancer, gastric cancer and head and neck cancer. In addition, he is also interested in translational research. He is actively involved in multinational clinical trials and is a member of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Group (CTRG), as well as of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). Dr. Roh was the Organizing Chairman for the 18th Asia-Pacific Cancer Conference (APCC) 2005 in Seoul and President of the Asian and Pacific Federation of Organizations for Cancer Research and Control (AFOCC). Currently, Dr. Roh is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Korean Cancer Association (KCA) and President of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Group (CTRG).

Dr. Michael Boyer is the Head of Medical Oncology at the Sydney Cancer Centre, as well as Deputy Director of the Sydney Cancer Centre. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Sydney.
Dr. Boyer received his medical degree from the University of Sydney. His training in Medical Oncology was carried out at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He subsequently spent three and a half years as a clinical fellow at the Princess Margaret Hospital / Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto, Canada, where he also completed a PhD in cell biology at the University of Toronto.
He has a particular clinical and research interest in the management of thoracic malignancy and of genitourinary cancer. His other major research interests are in clinical trials of new agents for the treatment of cancer, imaging of cancer, and doctor-patient communication in cancer. He is an author or co-author of over 70 scientific publications and book chapters. He is also on the Council of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, where he serves as Treasurer.
