The Medical Education Initiative on Molecular Targeted Therapy of Cancer (MTTC), established in 2001 and headed by the International Education Council (IEC), was developed to provide high quality medical education for medical oncologists following the guidelines for continuing medical education (CME).

Based on the presentations of the 1st International Medical Education Workshop held in Paris in 2002, the IEC developed educational content as a platform for future medical education activities in the form of a Core Educational Curriculum.

The Core Educational Curriculum is subdivided into four modules based on the various strategies for targeted therapy.

Core Educational Curriculum:

  • Antibody-Based Therapy
  • Signal Transduction Inhibition
  • Immunotherapy
  • Angiogenesis Inhibition

In a series of international and national workshops under the guidance of the IEC, the Core Curriculum was used as the basis for providing medical education to medical oncologists. It is planned to update the Core Curriculum regularly to provide the basis for all MTTC activities.

The Core Curriculum has been adapted for the following workshops:

  • 1st International MTTC Workshop (France, April 2002)
  • 2nd International MTTC Workshop (Naples, Italy, March 2003)
  • 3rd International MTTC Workshop (Budapest, Hungary, October 2003)

The Initiatives are supported by unrestricted educational grants. From the beginning, the initiative has been supported by the primary grantor Merck KGaA. Individual workshops are also supported by various co-grantors, including Lilly, Centocor, Sanofi-Aventis, Bayer HealthCare, Celgene and Fresenius Biotech.

CME Accreditation
In addition, the Medical Education Initiative on MTTC has proven to be of high scientific quality and educational value, based on international accreditation by

  • European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS; EACCME)
